Jackson Hewitt Awards $30,000 to Grand Prize Winner in National Preferred Customer Sweepstakes
PARSIPPANY, N.J., Aug. 31 - Jackson Hewitt Inc. (NYSE: JTX) awarded longtime customer Cynthia May-Barge with the $30,000 grand prize in the national Jackson Hewitt "Preferred Customer Sweepstakes." The Des Moines, Iowa native and single mother of three was presented the check by Mike Abuzir, franchise owner of the East Euclid Jackson Hewitt office in Des Moines, and Peter Tahinos, Senior Vice President of Marketing for Jackson Hewitt, at an official award ceremony today at the Jackson Hewitt office on 1301 East Euclid Avenue. Ms. May-Barge was randomly selected from the more than 86,000 entries received, in addition to Jackson Hewitt customers who were automatically entered.
The Jackson Hewitt Preferred Customer Sweepstakes was held from January 9, 2006 through May 1, 2006. Jackson Hewitt customers who had their 2005 tax returns prepared at a participating location were automatically entered into the sweepstakes and other contestants entered the sweepstakes by completing and mailing in an official entry form. In addition to the $30,000 grand prize, three first prizes of $3,000 and 20 second prizes of $300 were also awarded. All of the sweepstakes winners were randomly selected.
"I couldn't believe it when Mike Abuzir called to tell me that I was the Preferred Customer Sweepstakes winner. I thought I had won maybe $300, but never imagined $30,000 -- I'm still amazed," said Cynthia May-Barge.
Ms. May-Barge is a lead pre-school teacher at the Clive Children's Center II in Clive, Iowa and the mother of three daughters, ages two, 16 and 20. When asked about her plans for her winnings, Ms. May-Barge noted that the $30,000 will come in very handy in helping her family, including buying her 16-year-old a car.
"I'm so thrilled that Cynthia May-Barge is our Preferred Customer Sweepstakes winner. She's been a Jackson Hewitt customer for several years and is so deserving of this $30,000 grand prize," said Mike Abuzir.
