Families of Military Members Receive an Afternoon/Evening of Bowling, Food and Fun
PARSIPPANY, N.J., March 18, 2005 - Jackson Hewitt Tax Service Inc. (NYSE: JTX) today announced its plans to hold a series of Military Family Bowling Events as part of its overall "Support Our Troops" campaign running now through April 15. The Family Bowling Events will provide an opportunity for military families in seven major cities across the U.S. to reunite and enjoy quality time together. Each event will include free bowling, food and other fun-filled activities for the whole family.
"We are thrilled that military bases across the country are allowing us to honor these families with a special event," said Michael Lister, Chairman and CEO, Jackson Hewitt Tax Service Inc. "These events are dedicated to honoring U.S. troops who valiantly serve our country as well as their loved ones who care for their homes and families while awaiting their return."
The Family Bowling Events are planned to take place at military bases in the following markets: Atlanta (March 19), New Orleans (March 24), Virginia Beach/Norfolk (March 26), St. Louis (March 26), Chicago (April 2), Jacksonville (April 2) and San Francisco/Sacramento (April 4). Jackson Hewitt is engaging many of its partners to help launch these events. For example, in select cities, professional bowlers from the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) will be on hand to provide bowling tips, as well as autographed pictures.
Military families attending will spend hours of fun bowling with friends and family, as well as taking part in games and children's activities, including clown performances, face painting and more (activities may vary by location). In addition, during each event, a drawing will be held with one lucky family winning a free vacation package, valued at $3,000, courtesy of CheapTickets.com. The vacation includes roundtrip airfare and accommodations to anywhere within the continental U.S., providing the winning family with an opportunity to visit loved ones far away or to take their dream vacation.
The military and their families play an important role at Jackson Hewitt. In addition to providing tax preparation services to a significant number of military families, many of Jackson Hewitt's corporate and franchise employees serve in the military or have family in the military. The "Support Our Troops" campaign is a small way for Jackson Hewitt to show its appreciation and give back to those who serve their country and the families who support them. According to the National Military Family Association (NMFA)*, one of the greatest sources of support for all military families during deployment can be found through community efforts.
Jackson Hewitt began its annual "Support Our Troops" campaign last year with its "Support Our Troops Banner Campaign," which placed over 4,900 banners in Jackson Hewitt office locations nationwide for employees, customers and area residents to sign with well wishes. The banners were then sent by the Army National Guard to troops around the world. This year, in addition to its nationwide Military Family Bowling Events, Jackson Hewitt also launched a National Book Drive at participating Jackson Hewitt offices as part of its "Support Our Troops" campaign.
