New Jersey Citizen-Soldier Noted for Dedication and Service Through Jackson Hewitt National Guard 'Heroes of the Year' Campaign
Monthly Honoree Recognized for Community Involvement and Commitment in Nationwide Program
PARSIPPANY, N.J., October, 26, 2006 - New Jersey National Guard Staff Sergeant Robert A. Dollaway has been named a monthly honoree in the Jackson Hewitt National Guard "Heroes of the Year" campaign. Sponsored by Jackson Hewitt Tax Service®, an industry leader providing full service individual federal and state income tax preparation, the year-long campaign honors National Guard soldiers, families and employers around the country who have made a difference in their states or on foreign shores. SSG Dollaway was named today in a ceremony at the Army National Guard Armory in Riverdale, NJ, where he is based.
"Staff Sergeant Dollaway's extensive work as a Guardsman is commendable," said Michael Lister, President and Chief Executive Officer for Jackson Hewitt Tax Service Inc. "Not only is he extremely dedicated to the values and mission of the Guard, he actively works to support his troops and their families. He has coordinated numerous community events and programs. Through all of these efforts and his spirit, he upholds what a true citizen-soldier should be."
Staff Sergeant Dollaway, a member of the National Guard since 1987, currently serves as Senior Personnel Service Sergeant with the 2/113th Infantry, where he runs numerous weekend activities and assists the unit's Family Readiness Group, supporting Guardsmen and women and their loved ones. He also generates awareness of the Guard within the community (via Open House days) and to local students. He assisted in arranging an exhibit for school children that featured past and present equipment, period dress and more.
Staff Sergeant Dollaway consults on a military toy line from McFarlane Toys by providing feedback on possible action figures, informing the company about realistic poses and nominating several soldiers in his unit to have their likenesses used in the toy line.
In nominating her husband, Rebecca Dollaway notes that "after receiving an activation call, Robert is usually the first person at the armory. He's always ready to serve in any capacity necessary to get the mission accomplished. From evacuating people from their homes in emergencies to getting medical personnel to the hospitals, he never shies away from his duty, even when it means risking his own life."
The Jackson Hewitt National Guard "Heroes of the Year" campaign is a unique opportunity for people to nominate a loved one, friend or neighbor who serves in the Army National Guard. Each monthly honoree has the chance to participate in an opportunity of a lifetime -- to have his or her image featured on a NASCAR race car that will be raced at a 2007 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series Race. This is the first time that a non-celebrity's image will be featured on a NASCAR race car.
The grand prize winner and their family will also enjoy a memorable VIP experience as they cheer on their car trackside at a race. In addition to spotlighting soldiers, the campaign also recognizes families and employers who show exceptional support for, and service to, the core mission and values of the National Guard.
